Cubs reduce spring roster to 40 players

The Chicago Cubs today assigned nine players to minor league camp, reducing their spring roster from 49 to 40 players.

The Chicago Cubs today assigned nine players to minor league camp, reducing their spring roster from 49 to 40 players.
 
Right-handed pitchers Luke Farrell, Cory Mazzoni, Alec Mills and Jen-Ho Tseng; left-handed pitchers Dario Alvarez and Rob Zastryzny; and infielder David Bote have been optioned to Triple-A Iowa. 
 
Two non-roster invitees have been assigned to minor league camp: infielder Chesny Young and outfielder Jacob Hannemann.
 
Chicago's spring roster of 40 players consists of 20 pitchers (three non-roster invitees), five catchers (three non-roster invitees), 10 infielders (three non-roster invitees) and five outfielders (one non-roster invitee).
