Baez continues hot stretch with 7th HR, 3 RBIs

April 22nd, 2018

DENVER -- has been too hot to handle lately. He extended his hitting streak to six games Sunday with a 418-foot solo homer over the center-field wall in the second inning in the Cubs' 9-7 win at Coors Field.
The homer was Baez's seventh of the month, giving him more home runs before May 1 than any Cubs second baseman since 1913, and his 23 RBIs are also the most in April by a Cubs second baseman since 1913. He is tied for second in the National League with his seven dingers.
Baez added some necessary insurance runs in the seventh inning, lacing a two-run double down the left-field line to cap a three-run inning that put the Cubs ahead 9-4.
"That's what happens when you play hard. Javy gets another two or three RBIs, driving [the ball] all over the place," manager Joe Maddon said. "So many good things. We had great at-bats against some of their better pitchers, which was good to see."
Baez is hitting .481 (13-for-27) during his streak, with four doubles, a triple, three homers and 13 RBIs.
