DENVER -- Cubs reliever Steve Cishek had to be carted off the field after being hit on the inside of the right knee while playing catch before the Cubs' 10-1 win in Wednesday afternoon's series finale against the Rockies at Coors Field.

After the game, Cishek said that it’s a bruise and he’s sore, but “hopefully it’ll just be a day or two.” He was hit as a result of being crossed up on a throw by fellow reliever Brandon Kintzler.

“It’s a ball that kind of cut in this thin air when I was expecting it to sink,” Cishek said. “If he throws that pitch in a game, ain’t nobody hitting it. … When I first got hit, I couldn’t put any weight on it, but after we iced it I could put weight on it. I was thankful that once the ice calmed things down I was able to move around a little bit.”

Box score

Cishek has been one of the club's more reliable relievers so far this season, with a 3.21 ERA over 29 appearances (28 innings), though he has given up multiple runs in an outing on three occasions. Cishek pitched in the eighth inning of Monday's 6-5 defeat to Colorado, giving up the go-ahead single to Ryan McMahon and taking the loss to push his record to 1-3.
