11 reasons Dodger fans should be thrilled Jimmy Rollins is the team's new shortstop
11 reasons for Dodgers fans to love Jimmy Rollins
After 15 years and more than 2,300 hits, former NL MVP Jimmy Rollins is set to man the shortstop position for a team that isn't the Phillies. J-Roll -- now 36 -- waived his no-trade clause to enable a deal that has made him a member of the Dodgers organization.
Though Dodgers fans might be relatively familiar with the All-Star, now is as good a time as any to count the reasons they should be over the moon about seeing J-Roll's name in Hollywood lights.
He can't do this to the Dodgers, anymore:
You can't talk about Rollins and the Dodgers without immediately mentioning that he hit a walk-off double in Game 4 of the 2009 NLCS against them. The Phillies eliminated the Dodgers two days later, but eventually lost the World Series to Hideki Matsui and the Yankees.
Reunited and it feels so good
Dodgers first-base coach Davey Lopes held the same position with the Phillies from 2007-'10. In those four seasons, Rollins swiped 136 bases in 542 games (he missed nearly half of 2010 due to injury). That stretch included a 47-steal 2008, good for fourth in MLB.
His political clout
It seems Rollins is particularly popular among fans who happen to be the Vice President of the United States.
He gives back

Rollins is heavily involved with MLB's RBI charity and the Rollins Family Foundation he started with his wife Johari gives back to charities benefitting children. He's hosted celebrity bowling tournaments and themed fundraising galas over the years.
He hits well in the Mountain Time Zone
Rollins is a lifetime .267 hitter, but in 75 road starts against the D-backs and Rockies (both divisional opponents of the Dodgers), J-Roll is 101-for-327. That's good for a .309 batting average at both Chase Field in Arizona and Coors Field in Colorado. Throughout his career, Rollins has homered once every 9.7 games. He has six homers in 38 games in Phoenix.
His heads-up base-running
In a tight contest with the Padres in 2014, Rollins showed off his speed by stealing second ... then showed off his smarts by helping himself to third, which was unguarded thanks to an infield shift against Ryan Howard.
His attitude
The Phillies started the 2007 season 13 years removed from their last postseason appearance. That didn't stop him from taunting the Mets and dubbing the Phils the "team to beat" in the NL East that season. The Phillies went on to win the division. Oh, and Rollins won the NL MVP.
He's a music mogul
Well, kind of. J-Roll had his own record label, but later determined it would be smarter to find investment opportunities in music publishing. He has a platinum record for his stake in a Justin Bieber jam. Seriously.
Learn from the best
According to Fangraphs, no shortstop accumulated more WAR between 2002 and 2014 than J-Roll. Who better to help superstar-to-be Corey Seager get his feet underneath him in the bigs than the three-time All-Star with four Gold Gloves on his mantel?
He was in an MC Hammer video
How Hollywood is that? When he was 13, Rollins was an uncredited extra in Hammer's "Addams Family Groove." His is one of the heads that pops out of a grave at the 3:35 mark.
He hand-picked the Dodgers

Rollins had full no-trade protection and reportedly told Phillies brass that the Dodgers were the only team not in Philadelphia that he'd be willing to suit up for. That kind of enthusiasm has to count for something.
