A 2008 scouting report saw the power potential in late Draft pick Eric Thames

Eric Thames has been a revelation for the Brewers in 2017, returning to the United States with the impressive power he demonstrated in the KBO. He hit 124 homers with the NC Dinos and has promptly hit 16 in just 54 games with Milwaukee, already establishing a new personal MLB high.

Thames' strength did not come from nowhere. He might not have been a top-tier pick in the 2008 MLB Draft, but when the Blue Jays selected him in the seventh round, there was plenty of evidence that they might have found a gem. Here's what one scouting report said about Thames nine years ago. (Click here to enlarge)

While the "strength for [Major League] power" showed up early in his career, with 12 long balls in 95 games during his rookie season with Toronto in 2011, the noted aggressiveness took its toll. He only had a 5.6 percent walk rate from 2011-12, compared to a far superior 17.6 percent mark in 2017. (Click here to enlarge)

The "bat speed" and "quick, compact swing with good extension," however?

It's still there. And it's spectacular.
