A remake of 'Rookie of the Year' is officially in the works

It's been 25 years since "Rookie of the Year" -- the story of young Henry Rullenverter / Rabbinbuser / Resinbagger / Gardenhoser / Rowengartner's journey from Little League scrub to Major League star -- hit theaters. 25 years! Mike Trout wasn't even two years old yet.

If you think that two and a half decades is far too long to go without strange slingshot sound effects, "funky butt loving" and Gary Busey's mustache, well, 20th Century Fox agrees with you: According to Deadline, a remake is now officially in the works. It's still early in the planning stages, but "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend" consulting producers Doug Mand and Dan Gregor are in line to write and direct.

(Though admittedly, the story won't have quite the same whimsy to it now that Ronald Acuna Jr. is doing stuff like this at age 20.)
