Andrew McCutchen makes catch as lightning strikes, crazy storm postpones Pirates

Cutch makes catch as lightning strikes in crazy storm

"Thus, fear of danger is ten thousand times more terrifying than danger itself." - Daniel Defoe, Robinson Crusoe

Like Crusoe before them, the Pirates are basically the protagonists of their own Robinsonade novel now. They've survived multiple run-ins with crazy weather in Pittsburgh and at least one triumphant battle against a natural force of mythological proportions.

Our tale started on July 7, 2015, when Andrew McCutchen and Sean Rodriguez helped the Pirates grounds crew vanquish an otherwise uncontrollable Tarp Monster.

The Buccos went on to defeat the Padres, 3-2, that evening, but their saga was merely just beginning.

On Monday, the Pirates were again settled in Pittsburgh, where they were set to host the Cubs -- were it not for another bout with Mother Nature. As sporadic storms and torrential rain enveloped Cutch and Co., the team did its best to stave off the elements.

McCutchen fought off bolts of lightning to record outs in center field:

The grounds crew tamed a Tarp Monster and turned it against the same forces that controlled it during the first battle, but, alas, it was not meant to be as the Pirates-Cubs game was postponed after a second lengthy delay. No makeup date has been announced.
