As MLB Fashion Month continues, the Cards also dig into their past

In an offseason that's already seen one team go with a highly retro redesign, on Friday the Cardinals unveiled a new, throwback-inspired alternate jersey.

While the Cardinals won't be leaving the group of five teams (along with the Dodgers, Phillies, Tigers and Yankees) without a colored alternate, their new top will be in the retro off-white shade that has been gaining popularity recently. The Giants' primary home uniform is in the ivory shade meant to evoke wool flannel jerseys of the past, and the Braves, Indians, Mets and Phillies have all dabbled in it.

Just as significantly, the Cards' new jersey will have a "St. Louis" wordmark to go along with the classic birds-on-bat logo -- the first time since 1932 that the city name will appear on either a home or away uniform.

Unlike their standard home and away sets, the alternate will also feature a red headspoon (the line tracing the placket and circling around the top of the back). It will be worn for Saturday home games, and is available for purchase here.
