We regret to inform you that Bartolo Colon has been designated for assignment
For more than two decades, Bartolo Colon has amazed us with his impeccable control, left us speechless with his daunting displays of power and lifted our spirits with his all-around joie de vivre. He's been an inspiration, a daily affirmation that all of our dreams are possible if we just believed hard enough. (And, of course, he could field his position.)
But sadly, Colon has struggled in his first season with the Braves, posting an 8.14 ERA over 13 starts. And after the righty gave up six runs in four innings during Atlanta's 7-4 loss to San Diego on Wednesday night, the team designated him for assignment on Thursday:
It's unclear whether this is the end of the line for Bartolo -- he might accept his assignment and try to figure things out in Triple-A, or he could choose to become a free agent, in which case, we know of a certain fan base who would love to have him back.
