Baseball's first 'Jumanji'-themed jerseys: This week in Minor League Baseball promotions

Jumanji-themed jersey: This week in MiLB promotions

There are three certainties in life: death, taxes and most importantly, Minor League promotions. MiLB.com's Ben Hill has the inside scoop on the last of those certainties, and he'll be sharing a taste with us and you each and every week. For those who don't follow the world of Minor League theme jerseys very closely, it can seem to be a barrage of "Star Wars" iconography and little else. But there's far more to the landscape than this mere "Attack of the Clones."

For proof of Minor League Baseball's theme-jersey diversity, one need look no further than the Richmond Flying Squirrels. On Thursday, the Double-A San Francisco Giants affiliate will honor the "Many Faces of Robin Williams" via the industry's first "Jumanji"-inspired jersey.

Upon viewing these, one might feel the need to quote Alan Parrish -- played by Williams, who was a big Giants fan -- the most beloved "man trapped in a board game" protagonist in movie history:

"I've seen things you've only seen in your nightmares. Things you can't even imagine; things you can't even see. There are things that haunt you in the night; then something screams, and you hope to God you will not meet the same fate. Afraid? You don't even know what afraid is."

The Flying Squirrels anomalous "Jumanji" theme jersey is no anomaly, for this is a team that thrives on such things. On July 30, the team puts a spin on "Superhero Night" by celebrating a hero who often goes unheralded at the ballpark: The Flash. Future theme jersey historians should note that this is the first uniform top to combine lightning bolt, squirrel tale, acorn and defined abdomen imagery.

Such absurdity might prompt some observers to accuse the Flying Squirrels of jumping the theme jersey shark. Well, yeah, they already did. Earlier in the month, the team honored area swim teams (sure, why not?) by wearing these:
