Watch Angels prospect Nolan Fontana walk it off with an inside-the-park home run

Extra-inning baseball games carry with them a lot of tension. One mistake -- a misplaced fastball, a costly error, or an out on the basepaths -- can swing the outcome of the game. When Angels Minor Leaguer Nolan Fontana came to the plate to lead off the bottom of the 11th inning in Saturday night's Triple-A game between the Salt Lake Bees and the Iowa Cubs, he took advantage of just that sort of minor error to win the game with a walk-off inside-the-park home run.

Because many teams will adopt a no-doubles defensive alignment in the outfield in situations like these, it is incredibly rare for a walk-off inside-the-park home run to occur. As the Iowa Cubs discovered, a cautious defensive alignment is of little practical value if the outfielders trip over each other and the ball is allowed to get to the fence.
