Former Dodger world champions Don Newcombe and Sandy Koufax threw out the Game 7 first pitch

Prior to Wednesday night's World Series Game 7 against the Astros, the Dodgers invited four former World Series champions from their history to participate in the first pitch. Sandy Koufax threw to Steve Garvey while Don Newcombe threw to Rick Monday. Due, probably, to a rigorous planning process, they were set up so their opposite handedness wouldn't be an issue.

With Orel Hershiser throwing out the first pitch prior to Tuesday's Game 6, all six World Series champions in the Dodgers' franchise history have now been represented in first pitches in the final two games. Newcombe was on the 1955 Brooklyn Dodgers team, Koufax won three World Series with the Dodgers in 1959, 1963 and 1965 -- winning the World Series MVP Award in the last two -- Garvey and Monday were on the 1981 squad and Hershiser won with the Dodgers in 1988 while taking home MVP honors.
Despite the presence of these past champions, the Dodgers fell to the Astros, 5-1, in Game 7. No doubt, though, they inspired 25 Dodgers for 2018.
