Carlos Gonzalez hit a two-run home run with an assist from Cory Spangenberg

While the origins of the proverb that it takes a village to raise a child are uncertain, the truth of it is never cast into doubt. Similarly, one could say that it takes a village to hit a home run.
Or, at least Carlos Gonzalez and Cory Spangenberg might say that. During the sixth inning of the Rockies' 7-6 loss to the Padres Monday night, Gonzalez hit a ball out to left field that appeared to be caught by Spangenberg ... that is, until he safely deposited it in the seats.

Gonzalez's homer showed that not every dinger sails majestically from the bat to the outfield seats. Sometimes, they need a little bit of help at the end to reach their destination.
