Carlos Rodon's slider left Lorenzo Cain crumpled in the batter's box

Carlos Rodon was facing off against the defending World Series champion Royals on Sunday, and he knew he had to establish himself early. He had to let them know right from the start that they should be prepared for his best stuff. He had to put the fear of his slider in their hearts.

So, with two outs in the first inning, he threw a pitch that left Lorenzo Cain crumpled in the batter's box:

At the sheer magnificence of Rodon's slider, Cain's skeleton was instantly transmuted into a substance that was definitely not solid matter. His arms swung way around his head, his legs gave out and he was dropped to a knee. 

That, friends, is how you know a pitch is good.

Rodon struck out Cain four pitches later, and he finished with four strikesouts over 6 2/3 innings as the White Sox won, 3-2.
