Darvish fans proclaim 2012 the Year of the Yu

Tuesday’s game-time temperature in Arlington was 103 degrees. But the heat won’t stop Rangers rookie Yu Darvish from taking the mound, or Tak and Mika Fujita from coming to see him pitch.

Tak said the Fujitas own season tickets and have seen every one of Darvish’s home starts.

The couple has followed the right-hander since he pitched for the Japanese Pacific League’s Nippon-Ham Fighters. Tak said he enjoys seeing Darvish pitch every fifth day in the States, rather than once a week like he did in Japan.

The Fujitas bring two signs to a majority of Darvish’s starts: A large cutout of the pitcher's head and another one that changes each game.

On Tuesday, the second sign included the words “Year of the Tiger” crossed out and replaced by “Year of the Yu!”

“Even if they win the World Series, we'll be here every year he's here and longer,” Tak said.
