Did Jonathan Papelbon pay Jim Thome to walk it off?

Rumor has it that the Phillies closer came off the field after blowing the save in Saturday's contest against the Rays, and offered to pay any teammate $5,000 to hit a walk-off home run.

And wouldn't you know it, Jim Thome did just that.

With one swing of the bat, Thome became the league's all-time leader in walk-off homers with 13, and supposedly became $5,000 richer at the same time.

Although Papelbon admits in the above video to writing Thome the check, the slugger denies receiving any money.

Who are we to believe?
