Did Pedro Alvarez’s doppelganger call Pedro Alvarez’s second homer on Tuesday?
Spirit doubles: They feature in ancient cultures from Scandinavia to Egypt, Abraham Lincoln had persistent visions of one and Pedro Alvarez appeared to have one at PNC Park on Tuesday night, right down to the white batting gloves.
Called shots: Babe Ruth authored the original in the 1932 World Series (or so the legend goes) and Jake Taylor pretended to call one for the sake of misdirection in the climactic scene of Major League but it's probably not something the humble Alvarez would do, even though he had already clubbed one homer in Tuesday's game.
But Alvarez's doppelganger is a different story. He pointed a white-gloved finger toward deep center field, and the real Alvarez did the rest.
