Unstoppable force Evan Gattis meets immovable object Adrian Beltre, ceaseless standoff ensues

Evan Gattis meets Adrian Beltre in ceaseless standoff

Evan Gattis stood at second base during the bottom of the second inning of Sunday's Rangers-Astros matchup, with Jon Singleton on first and Jake Marisnick at the plate.

When Marisnick shot a grounder to Adrian Beltre, Gattis lumbered forward and hurled his 6-foot-4, 260-pound frame toward third base, right at the 5-foot-11, 220-pound Beltre. What followed was the sort of thing they write AP Physics exam problems about.

Gattis and Beltre engaged in a standoff between second and third, staring each other down with their feet rooted to the spot. Neither flinched, though we bet Beltre is thankful Gattis wasn't going as fast as he was on Saturday's triple.

The fans in attendance at Minute Maid Park witnessed firsthand what happens when an unstoppable force collides with an immovable object. Unconfirmed reports that the standoff remains ongoing and science teachers around the country are furiously writing it down to use as a real-world example in class.

Just kidding. Gattis admitted defeat and Beltre tagged him for the second out of the inning.

Until next time, Mrs. Wallace.
