Fernando Rodney honors late father with All-Star tribute
Fernando Rodney, the Rays' 12th different All-Star representative in the past five seasons, has made his first Midsummer Classic an emotional one.
"This is going to be for my dad," he said after learning he'd been selected. "I'd like him to be here with me. We were good friends. We did everything together."
Rodney's father, Ulise, died of cancer just days before the reliever's Major League debut in 2002. Ten years later, Rodney paid a fitting tribute by wearing "ULISE" on the back of his All-Star workout jersey.
