Harry Caray, Ron Santo welcome Ernie Banks to 'Friendly Confines in the Sky'

Harry and Ron welcome Mr. Cub to 'Friendly Confines'

Mourning great loss is never easy, but it's the little things that emphasize the "great" rather than the "loss" part that often usher in moments of relief, if only slight and temporary. It was with this in mind that MLB enlisted designer Benjamin Marra to create an editorial cartoon memorializing Hall of Famer Ernie Banks.

Banks died on Friday at the age of 83. The outpouring of support that followed indicates that Banks' reach stretched beyond baseball, and that he'll be remembered for his uplifting spirit as much as for his 512 home runs.

The cartoon shows former voice of the Cubs (and legend in his own right) Harry Caray and Hall of Fame third baseman and longtime Cubbie Ron Santo welcoming Mr. Cub to his new "Friendly Confines."
