A Royals fan proposed to a Cardinals fan during BP, with some help from Omar Infante
Infante helps Royals fan propose to Cardinals fan
OK, fine, we won't start pelting you with Shakespearean sonnets, but this truly is a tale of epic love. Ethan Richardson and his girlfriend, Heather Leseberg hail from Sedalia, Mo., just about midway between St. Louis and Kansas City. Thus ... a house divided.
Richardson is a Royals fan, Leseberg a Cardinals fan. At a silent auction for the Boys and Girls Club, Richardson won two tickets and field passes to Friday night's Royals-Cardinals game in St. Louis. It was the perfect present for his girlfriend, yes, but also a perfect opportunity for something much bigger -- a proposal.
Richardson had a ring ... and that was about it, as far as planning went. He knew that Busch Stadium was the perfect place, and that batting practice was the perfect time, but he couldn't be sure how things would play out or if anyone would be willing to help. Luckily, the Baseball Gods abide: The couple happened to be standing next to some fans who knew Omar Infante, and yes, Heather, he would be happy to sign an "autograph":
By the time she turned around, Ethan was already on one knee, and the you can guess the rest. Moments later, the Cardinals and Royals joined hands behind home plate, singing a rapturous chorus, vowing never to do battle again. (OK, maybe not that last part, but you get the idea.)
"Sometimes when you don't plan things they just work out better," Ethan said afterward. Indeed.
