Jeter says goodbye: A recap of the Captain's final All-Star Game

If you haven't been living in a hole in some distant, deserted island somewhere, you'd know that Derek Jeter played in his 13th and final All-Star Game on Tuesday. Here's a recap of all that went on before, during and after the contest.

The Captain started his day on the All-Star Red Carpet ... in style:

He then headed over to Target Field, giving a Chipper Jones-esque speech to the AL squad in the clubhouse:

And when he finally did step onto the diamond, Jeter was greeted with standing ovation from the Minnesota crowd:

Right away, he provided a highlight. Or at least he would've, if someone other than Andrew McCutchen had been running to first base:

In the bottom of the first inning, Jeter got things started with a double to right field:

And then Mike Trout drove him home with a triple, giving the AL an early 1-0 lead -- just as predicted:

In the third, Jeter came up again and delivered one of his vintage inside-out singles:

Even he couldn't help but smile at that one:

Jeter took the field for the top of the fourth but was replaced by Alexei Ramirez before the inning began, giving fans one final opportunity to show their appreciation. The Captain will finish his career with a .481 average (fifth-highest all time) in the All-Star Game.
