Jim Whittaker, the first American to climb Mt. Everest, throws out first pitch for the Mariners
Seattle native Jim Whittaker threw out the first pitch before Sunday's Angels-Mariners game at Safeco Field. And although delivering the ceremonial first ball can sometimes be a stressful and difficult chore, we're guessing it wasn't as hard as scaling Mount Everest.
Whittaker was the first American to accomplish that feat back in 1963 and will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of his climb on May 1.
