Kid catches home run ball, makes trade with Matt Joyce
The internet found this screengrab of a little boy holding up a home run ball that was hit off the bat of Matt Joyce during Wednesday's Rays-Orioles game at Tropicana Field.
Turns out, there is a bit more to the story.
The Rays are the only Major League team to allow any fan retrieving a Rays home run ball at Tropicana Field during the regular season to get it autographed by the player who hit it before leaving the ballpark.
For Joyce, it was the first walk-off hit of his career, and he wanted to keep the ball. So 8-year-old Alex traded it for pre-game field passes and met Joyce during batting practice prior to Saturday's game. Joyce gave Alex a signed bat and signed ball as part of the trade.
