Mariano Rivera wants to play center field, but don't hold your breath
Before Mariano Rivera retires, the longtime closer says he wants to play center field. Asked about the possibility on Tuesday, Joe Girardi left the door of possibility slightly cracked, though probably not in a way that would be pleasing overall to Yankees fans.
Girardi said he'd consider putting Rivera in center for an inning during "a bad situation for our team," one in which the Yanks have been eliminated from playoff contention. But Brian Cashman threw cold water on the entire idea, saying that after what happened in Kansas City, we know Mo can't properly play the outfield.
