Meet Alex Guerrero, the pinch-hitter/3B/OF Dodger fans have been dreaming of
Alex Guerrero hit another HR (this is a new post)
When a 28-year-old MLB player has all of 22 career games in the bigs under his belt and has "pinch hitter" listed as his primary position on Baseball-Reference, there's a good chance you might not have heard about him yet.
On the other hand, when that guy is Cuban slugger Alex Guerrero and he explodes for five home runs in his first 22 at-bats of the season, heads are gonna turn.
While Guerrero has made a few spot starts at third base, he's been nothing short of incredible off the bench. In seven opportunities as a pinch-hitter this season, Guerrero is 3-for-6 with two home runs, a double and a walk. Oh, and five RBIs.
On Sunday, Guerrero made his fifth appearance at the hot corner for the Dodgers and belted another home run.
He added a second hit, because of course he did. And then for his encore, he got horizontal to flash the leather, proving that he can be more than just a bat off the bench.
The season's still young -- small sample sizes and all that -- but the Alex Guerrero bandwagon is about to pull out of the station, so get your shirseys while they're still semi-ironic.
