Mets call forth new hero from mystical land of Syndergaard

Mets call forth new hero from land of Syndergaard

And lo, that which had been written about in the ancient tomes of the Library of the Gods came to pass: The Mets had discovered a new realm of existence on the branch of Yggdrasil, the World Tree, which connects all the realms of existence -- from the humans of Midgard to the dark elves of Svartalfheim, to the Los Angeles Angels of Vanaheim. And now, the tree has grown a new branch, this one with its very own Thor: Syndergaard.

On Friday, the Mets called up this long-haired No. 1 prospect, whose 98-mph lightning bolts and quickly improving changeup are the stuff of legends. While on Midga--, excuse me, Earth, the right-handed hero shall go by the name of Noah Syndergaard to protect his identity and pay homage to his homeland.

While just one day ago he was felling the mighty beasts of the mythical Syndergaardian land of "Las Vegas" -- smashing home runs and beating the opposition to the tune of a 1.82 ERA and 10.3 K/9 in 29 2/3 Triple-A innings -- today he is taking the Raindow Bridge to Queens. There he will take his rightful place among the rest of the Mets' heroes, like David "Captain America" Wright and Matt "Dark Knight" Harvey. (Yes, I realize this is mixing Marvel and DC continuity. Just imagine it's the Amalgam series, OK?)

Syndergaard will likely make his first start on Tuesday against the Cubs. It's a fitting matchup, as this young, brash hero will face off against such vaunted warriors as Kris Bryant, Anthony Rizzo, Jorge Soler and Addison Russell.

To that, Syndergaard can say only one thing:
