MiLB team loses after player doesn't touch home on HR
Baseball is a simple, but complicated game. The rules are easy to comprehend, but there are a lot of them -- and being astute enough to dot all the i's and cross all the t's is sometimes easier said than done.
One Minor League team learned that the hard way on Sunday.
Elier Leyva of the Delmarva Shorebirds -- the Class-A affiliate of the Orioles -- hit what would have been a game-winning home run in the ninth inning, but missed home plate and was called out on appeal.
So, instead, the game remained tied and the Augusta GreenJackets won it with a walk-off single in the 10th. Ya live and ya learn, right?
