Ventura signed with Royals as an amateur free agent in 2008. His baseball career really kicked off in 2014, when he went 14-10 and finished sixth in Rookie of the Year voting. In 2015, he was an important part of K.C.'s World Series-winning team. He was 25.
Also on Sunday, former Major League infielder Andy Marte died in a separate car crash. Marte signed with the Braves in 2000, and played in Atlanta, Cleveland and Arizona over his seven-season career. He spent the past two years in Korea with the KT Wiz. He was 33.
