Max Scherzer and the Nationals are officially retiring their chocolate syrup celebration
New year, new you ... new walk-off celebration? It looks like the Nationals are set to start a new chapter in epic celebrations for the 2016 season because Max Scherzer -- the NL Cy Young finalist and mastermind behind the chocolate syrup showers -- has announced that the Nats will be officially retiring the ceremony.
Scherzer spoke with Jim Duquette and Jim Bowden on SiriusXM's MLB Network Radio last week about turning the page ahead of the forthcoming season:
"That was last year. That was just a one-year thing. It was kind of a spur of the moment how it even came about. We'll look for a new way try to have some more fun this year, in '16."
First Adam Jones hangs up his pie crust, and now this? Sure, Scherzer -- who was joined by Bryce Harper during the segment -- promised to bring about a new tradition to punctuate the 2016 Nats' biggest moments, but that doesn't make it any easier to say goodbye to probably the tastiest celebration in baseball.
