Neil Ramirez fails badly on pickoff attempt
Edward Mujica of the Red Sox had a very off-target pickoff attempt earlier this season. Even the umpires couldn't hold back their giggles:
But during Tuesday's Cubs-Pirates game, Neil Ramirez may have topped Mujica with this throw in the ninth inning:
The toss was so wild that it was deemed a balk, giving Pedro Alvarez (and his eight career steals) a free pass to second base. Luckily for Ramirez, the play didn't lead to any runs and the Cubs won 7-3.
