It's National Dog Day, which means it's time for more photos of adorable MLB dogs

Perhaps you thought that the phrase "dog days of summer" was inspired by extremely hot late summer temperatures coinciding with the rise, at sunrise, of the dog star Sirius. We regret to inform you that you've been misled: The name actually derives from National Dog Day, that most sacred holiday which has marked the celebration of man's best friend since the dawn of time.
It's been a banner year for dogs at the ballpark -- they've surfed, they've skateboarded, they've even come back from false eports of their own death. In honor of these heroic pups, and in recognition of the fact that every dog must have its day, we present 10 photos of some of the most adorable dogs from around MLB.
Like this dog, who looks fantastic in red:

And this dog, who would like to know what's so special about this "Robinson Canó" fellow:

And this dog, who kindly requests that you keep your eyes on the game, thanks:

And this dog, moments before he or she scores an ... inside-the-bark home run (sorry):

And this dog, who is too cool for you:

And this dog, who just wants to say hello:

And this dog, who we'd like to congratulate on becoming the Marlins' new first-base coach:

And this dog, currently engaged in an intense staring contest with Phillies third baseman Cody Asche:

And these dogs, who have a friendship dreams are made of:

And, lastly, this dog, who might as well be a human:
