Pirates, fans Stand Up 2 Cancer at PNC
The usual Friday Night Block Party on Federal Street before the Pirates games every Friday night had a different theme to it on Aug. 10. The Pirates and Pirates Charities hosted Stand Up 2 Cancer Night at the ballpark while the hometown Bucs took on the Padres for the first of a three-game weekend series.
Before the game, fans rushed out to the streets to listen to live entertainment, munch on their favorite concessions and interact with local cancer-awareness advocates, including long-time Pirates bench coach Jeff Banister.
Fans were able to purchase special Stand Up 2 Cancer t-shirts, wristbands and additional Pirates memorabilia. Prizes were awarded to a few lucky fans, with all proceeds going directly to Stand Up 2 Cancer.
Throughout the season, the masses can sign a special Stand Up 2 Cancer banner on display at PNC Park, just inside the Western Pennsylvania Allegheny Health Systems rotunda.
As Stand Up 2 Cancer’s mission statement reads, “This is where the end of cancer begins: when we unite in one movement, unstoppable.”
