Rajai Davis' dead-man slide into third base didn't quite work

With runners on the corners in the top of the seventh during Friday's Game 3 of the World Series, Coco Crisp was brought in to pinch-hit for the Indians' ace reliever, Andrew Miller. After lining Carl Edwards' first-pitch fastball into shallow right to drive in Michael Martinez, the speedy Rajai Davis made the fateful decision to try for third. 
That was the wrong decision. With the ball beating him to the bag, Davis needed to pull off a Lindorian or Baez-esque slide. Instead, he either took inspiration from Oingo Boingo's "Dead Man's Party" or mixed up his sliding instructions with how to avoid being eaten by bears and ended up splayed on his back, hoping for the safe call. 

While Davis successfully protected himself from an unexpected grizzly attack, he was still called out. With Martinez's run providing the difference in Cleveland's 1-0 victory, I don't think Indians fans will be too upset.
