Rays bring out the leis for tropical charity event
To try to make their charity luau as authentic as possible, the Rays slow-roasted a pig for the main entrée. Don't worry though -- it wasn't one speared by Luke Scott.
Though Port Charlotte, Fla., is more than 6,000 miles away from Hawaii, the Rays got tropical at Charlotte Sports Park after Saturday's game against the Twins. The team raised approximately $10,000 for local Charlotte County community partners with the event.
Rays players Mike Fontenot, Sam Fuld, Brandon Gomes, James Loney, Jake McGee, Matt Moore, Jeff Niemann, Cesar Ramos, Sean Rodriguez and Jamey Wright served food and drinks and mingled with fans during the two-hour event on the outfield boardwalk near the Tiki Hut.
Fuld, in particular, was impressed with the featured delicacy:
