Russell Martin's multi-homer postseason game is first for Pirate since 1971, the year they won it all
Russell Martin hit two home runs during Tuesday's NL Wild Card Game to help the Pirates top the Reds 6-2. He's the first NL catcher to accomplish the feat since Gary Carter in 1986 and the only backstop to ever homer for three different teams (Dodgers, Yankees, Pirates) in postseason play.
Martin's two long balls in one game may also bode well for his team going forward. The last Buc to go deep multiple times in a postseason contest was Bob Robertson in the 1971 NLCS -- the same year Pittsburgh won the World Series.
