Russell Martin makes incredible play to thwart Reds suicide squeeze attempt

The suicide squeeze is one of the most exciting plays in baseball, mostly because of how seemlessly it can be executed or how laughable it can be when it falls apart. During Sunday's matinee with the Reds, the Pirates battery played some spectacular defense to keep the Buccos within striking distance.

Reds pitcher Johnny Cueto was on-deck with one out in the fifth when Devin Mesoraco broke for the plate as Kristopher Negron squared to lay down the squeeze. Quick thinking from pitcher Stolmy Pimentel thwarted the attempt, though, as Russell Martin lunged to his right to catch an outside pitch and then laid out to apply the tag to a sliding Mesoraco.
