Nats fans give Steven Souza Jr. a standing ovation in return to DC, boo when he breaks up no-hitter
Souza gets ovation in DC, booed for getting 1st hit
The last time Steven Souza Jr. played an MLB game at Nationals Park, all he did was make an incredible, Jim Edmonds-style catch for the final out for Jordan Zimmermann's no-hitter in Game 162 of last season:
Souza was traded to the Rays in the offseason, but returned to our nation's capital for a two-game Interleague series and Nats fans greeted him with open arms. With Zimmermann on the mound, Souza stepped up for his first at-bat in the top of the second inning and was met with a standing ovation.
Zimmermann had retired the first five batters he faced, but Souza promptly singled to left field, technically breaking up the no-hitter.
Nats fans proceded to boo because baseball is all about, "What have you done for me lately?"
To follow up that performance, Souza came charging into foul territory behind first base and made a sliding grab because that's just what he does when he plays in Nats Park.
If that wasn't enough, Souza homered to left-center field in his next at-bat.
Yeah, we're pretty sure that standing ovation was a one-time deal.
Ok, Steven Souza Jr. That's enough. Souza Jr. hits a solo home run into the visitors' bullpen. #Rays up, 1-0.
