Taking a page out of Eric Hosmer's book, Josh Donaldson won the ALDS with a mad dash

Culture is all about drawing inspiration from what came before. Modern pop music wouldn't exist without the Beatles, commercial jets wouldn't exist without the Wright Brothers and, without Eric Hosmer, perhaps the Blue Jays and Rangers are still playing.
Think back, if you can, to the World Series a year ago. Trailing by one in the top of the ninth in Game 5, Salvador Perez hit a soft ground ball to third base. After the throw was made to first base, Hosmer saw his chance and took off. The run tied the game and the Royals would go on to win the Series in extra innings.

(Of course, Hosmer may have even taken his cue from "Major League.")
On Sunday night, Josh Donaldson did the same to finish off the Rangers in Game 3 of the ALDS, 7-6. After doubling to lead off the inning -- even gritting his teeth due to a hip injury as he rounded first -- runners were on first and second when Russell Martin hit a ground ball to short. After getting the out at second base, Rougned Odor's throw to first was in the dirt and got away from Mitch Moreland. The race was on:

Just watch how Donaldson's slide matches up with his Kansas City colleague:

While the Blue Jays began their celebrations, Donaldson was asked if he felt any pain in his hip. The third baseman had one simple answer
"I don't feel much of anything right now."
The Blue Jays will play Game 1 of the ALCS on Friday night in Boston or Cleveland (time TBD). The ALCS will be broadcast on TBS, as well as Sportsnet and RDS (in French) in Canada.
