The Cardinals have acquired John Gant -- owner of the weirdest windup in baseball

The Braves traded for Cardinals starter Jaime García on Thursday night -- bolstering a rotation that already featured R.A. Dickey, Julio Teheran and sluggerBartolo Colon. While the Cards did give up a veteran starter in Garcia, they acquired three of Atlanta's top 30 prospects: RHP Chris Ellis (No. 17), 2B Luke Dykstra, son of Lenny, (No. 29) and RHP John Gant (No. 21).
They should all be fun to watch grow and blossom into big leaguers, but we're guessing Gant might be the most fun to watch. Why? This is why.

Yes, this is really how he pitches from the full windup:

MLB.com's Mark Bowman interviewed Gant after he showed off this pitching style during his MLB debut in April. Here's a snippet of what he said:
"I just started doing it one day. I don't know where it came from. A catcher on one of my teams in the Minor Leagues imitated me and I said, I don't really do that, do I? He said, 'Yeah, that's how you really pitch.' I guess it has grown a little bit since then and it feels right. So, I do it."
St. Louis GM John Mozeliak even mentioned the windup as part of the "attraction" in making the deal.
You keep doing you, John.
Gant, 23, went 1-4 with a 4.86 ERA in 20 games (seven starts) last season. In 462 MiLB innings, he's recorded a 3.33 ERA with 445 strikeouts and a 1.26 WHIP.
