The Rays, formed in 1998, wear 'fauxback' uniforms from 1979
1979. The Village People topped the Billboard charts, Woody Allen was making movies to the sounds of George Gershwin and the Rays, well, the Rays didn't exist.
But that didn't stop the team from donning throwback uniforms 19 years before their creation on Saturday. The threads (probably familiar to Padres players of that era) were part of Tampa Bay's "Turn Back the Clock Night," a promotion they also participated in last year. Here are some photos from the day:
