The third-base line was unkind to Nick Swisher on Monday
Let's all support Indians first baseman Nick Swisher in his time of need. The poor guy had a pretty bad case of the Mondays last night, falling victim to a heads-up play by Brayan Pena and and later getting better acquainted with the Progressive Field turf.
First, there was the mixup you see above -- Swisher, assuming his ball was foul, didn't run to first base in the eighth inning. Pena waited for the roller to turn fair, then tagged out Swish.
Two innings later, Swisher tried to score from second on a Michael Brantley single, only to have this happen as he rounded third:
The Indians went on to lose the contest, falling to 3.5 games behind Detroit in the AL Central. Said Swisher after:
"It was just one of those games."
