The umpire called time at the plate, but Jon Lester still threw a 'pitch'

Time was called, but Jon Lester still threw a 'pitch'

Maybe it was just us, but Jon Lester seemed excited to pitch his first game as a Cub Sunday night. He threw an extended warmup session before the game; his first pitch -- the first pitch of the 2015 MLB season -- was a strike. Jon Lester was ready. to. go. And when you're amped like that, you want to throw all the pitches.

Even when the umpire calls time at the plate during the top of the second inning:

The pitch soared over catcher David Ross' head, while Jon Jay and the umpire backed away like the ball had cooties.

The throw was officially scored as a non-pitch, wiping its existence from the records of history. But we'll know that it happened. We'll know.
