Young Tigers fan who caught Ben Zobrist's grand slam meets him face-to-face at Comerica Park

Young Tigers fan throws first pitch, meets Zobrist

Earlier this season, way back when Ben Zobrist was on the A's, he hit a grand slam against the Tigers in Comerica Park that was caught by JD Schilp, a young Detroit fan who was A) thrilled to make a truly impressive catch on a hard-hit homer and B) completely devastated that his Tigers had just given up four runs.

If there ever was a roller coaster of emotions, he was riding right at the front:

But the story did not end there, no sir. Ben Zobrist sent JD an autographed bat to reward the magnificent catch on what Zobrist called "maybe the hardest home run I've ever hit." And on Wednesday night, the two returned to Comerica.

Zobrist, now a Royal, was there once again to face off against the Tigers, albeit for a different team than in June. JD, still a steadfast Tigers fan, was there to throw out the first pitch.

"I didn't see him at first but then all I heard was, 'Hey, JD' and I turned around in shock," said JD, who also gave Zobrist a thank you note he'd made. "He said hi and how great he thought my catch was. He also told me how great his hit was."

JD just had one request: "I told him if he hits another one he has to make sure only one runner is on."

And he got his wish -- Zobrist went homerless in the game and the Tigers won, 2-1. Consider the score settled.
