Tom Wilhelmsen joined a co-ed softball league when he traveled Europe
In Tuesday's edition of Intentional Talk, hosts Chris Rose and Kevin Millar asked Mariners closer Tom Wilhelmsen about his unique road to the Majors.
Would you believe that Wilhelmsen actually took five years off of baseball (from 2004-08) so he could travel and live in Europe? If that fact wasn’t shocking enough, check out how he stayed in baseball shape during the hiatus.
Hours in the European weight rooms? Marathon-like jogs? Nope and nope. Instead, he just joined a co-ed softball league, where most of his teammates had never even played before.
And don't think they won all their games with Wilhelmsen pitching. He actually played in the outfield.
