Jacoby Ellsbury loses track of outs, gets thrown out at first
Something strange has to happen for Jacoby Ellsbury to ground into an 18-second double play.
But such was the case in Saturday's game against the Dodgers, when Ellsbury lost track of the outs as he slapped a ground ball to first baseman Adrian Gonzalez.
After Gonzalez threw to Hanley Ramirez to tag lead runner Xander Bogaerts out at second, Ellsbury headed back to the dugout -- unaware that there were only two outs recorded in the inning. The defense capitalized as Ellsbury looked on in confusion.
Fortunately for the speedy center fielder, no damage was done -- the Red Sox went on to win the game 4-2.
