When Mike Napoli fielded this hard-hit ground ball off the bat of Tigers designated hitter Victor Martinez, he was probably expecting to turn a routine double play to end the inning.
The Red Sox did get the double play, but it wasn't exactly routine.
Unbeknownst to Miguel Cabrera, the Tigers' baserunner, he likely would have been safe had he tried to make it to second base rather than retreating to first. Why?
Well:
Yup -- the ball got stuck in Napoli's glove.
Thankfully for the Red Sox, the first baseman never let Cabrera see that his glove had been compromised and managed to apply the tag before the reigning MVP noticed:
