Salvador Perez used every inch of fair territory when he lined a hit off the third-base bag
Salvador Perez is the Amelia Bedelia of baseball. I know it's a bold statement to compare a real-life catcher to a children's book nanny, but hear me out -- Amelia Bedelia's defining characteristic is that she takes everything literally. When you tell her to "dress a chicken," she puts clothes on your dinner. When Salvador Perez gets a base hit, this is what happens:
See? He actually hit the base! With two outs in the bottom of the 11th inning of World Series Game 1, Perez lined a grounder straight to the bag, getting it to bounce up into the air and away from David Wright.
Perez made it to first, but Alex Gordon struck out swinging in the very next at-bat. The walk-off would have to wait until the bottom of the 14th, when Eric Hosmer's sac fly scored Alcides Escobar for a 5-4 victory.
Game 2 of the World Series is tonight on FOX. Tune in for coverage beginning at 7:30 p.m. ET. The game is scheduled to start 8.
