At the precipice of defeat, Alex Guerrero delivers two-out, two-strike, game-winning grand slam
The Dodgers entered the top of the ninth inning down 8-5 to the Rockies on Tuesday night. Things were not looking good. But then, Alberto Callaspo singled ... and Jimmy Rollins singled ... and Chris Heisey singled ... EVERYBODY SINGLED!!
With the bases loaded, Justin Turner then struck out and Joc Pederson flied out to left field. Once again, it seemed as if all hope might be lost for the Dodgers. But with two outs, two strikes and President Bill Pullman's speech probably looping through his head, Alex Guerrero erased the deficit with one mighty swing of the lumber:
L.A. won the contest 9-8 -- splitting Tuesday's doubleheader. According to MLB.com's Ken Gurnick, after the game, Guerrero was asked if he'd ever hit a grand slam in the ninth inning in Cuba.
"Of course," he said.
