Cespedes calls on power of parakeet to hit first HR

Yoenis Cespedes has had a pretty good August so far. He got traded to the first-place Mets, he's had some clutch hits and he might soon be eating sandwiches with Jerry Seinfeld. But one thing he hasn't done? Hit a home run. Going into Wednesday's Rockies-Mets game, the left fielder had gone 43 plate appearances without a long ball.

In order to stop this massive home-run outage, Cespedes knew what he must do. He strapped on his magical neon armbands and called upon THE POWER OF THE NEON PARAKEET. The ferocious fowl arrived during Cespedes' first at-bat -- bewildering fans and announcers alike:

And then, in the bottom of the eighth inning, Yoenis sent an opposite-field home run deep into the New York night. The parakeet watched the slow trot around the bases, knowing its job was complete.

After the game, Cespedes confirmed he is in fact one with the bird:
